With all the poker I play on a regular basis, you would think that when my birthday rolls around I would actually prefer to partake in a different activity. In reality that is the time when I like to change things up a little and enjoy a different slice of poker life. If I haven’t played a live tournament in a while, then that might be when I decide to do so, or maybe I will get all my friends together and host a home game. If you put in a little effort, you can really have an amazing poker-related birthday.
Here are a few ideas:
Birthday Home Game
If you don’t feel like getting harassed by the local maniacs at your favourite bricks and mortar card room, dust off your personal poker table, assemble your favourite friends and throw a home game: http://www.casa-casinos.com/. It doesn’t need to be a hardcore session. In fact, it will probably be more enjoyable if you limit the games to a selection that is more light-hearted, such as ‘In-Between’.
The unvisited Card Room
Another recommendation I would suggest on your birthday is an excursion to a card room that you have always wanted to visit but never have. For example, if you are in my region of Southern California it could be the legendary Commerce Casino, the largest card room in the world. The idea is to give yourself a brand new poker experience that, regardless of whether you end the day up or down, you will still look back with a positive memory.
Introducing a Friend
Even though it is your birthday, one of the best things you can do on this special day is to introduce a friend to your poker world, especially if they have little to no experience. They probably won’t be able to hang with your normal buy-in levels, so pick an inexpensive tournament or something comparable. Not only will you have a great time but you will also get the extra bonus of having brought another player into the poker community.
